Mary Anne Charity Trust or MACT is a non-political and non-religious NGO working with underprivileged communities in Tamil Nadu. Over the years the organisation has grown to be a child focused developmental organisation. It has also made an impact as an organisation that advocates for human rights especially in the area of environment and health. MACT empowers the community by:
Providing access to education, health, human rights and child rights programmes.
Providing trainings and developmental opportunities
Raising awareness on Child Rights and developing IEC material like brouchers, pamphlets et al
Conducting advocacy and lobbying activities.
MACT is a multi-faceted organisation with diverse projects that cater to the challenges in Environment, Child Rights, Education and Tobacco control avenues. Activities related to Environment (State Level):
Green Shadow – Created Green Shadow android based mobile app. This app was created to look into the protection of existing trees from incessant cutting and increasing the green cover in the State of Tamil Nadu,India.
Organic Farming – MACT is a member of International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). MACT owns organic farms at Rajalipatty, Pudukottai and Puthanatham, Trichy. The Organic Farm at Rajalipatty also boasts of a Vermicompost Pit and an Exclusive area dedicated for the growth of Herbal Garden.
Climate Justice – MACT is involved in climate action and climate justice through sensitising the communities on eco – friendly practices and behavioural and attitudinal change. This again is carried through the children movement.
100 Trees per Village Project – 100 trees plantation is one of the unique projects of MACT, the objective of this project is to plant 100 trees in each target villages.
Tamil Nadu Organic Movement (TOM) – TOM comprises of individuals who aim to make organic way of life available for everyone, thereby creating a sustainable and wholistic environment for the future generation.
