Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for child relief. Founded in 1960, Tdh helps to build a better future for disadvantaged children and their communities with an innovative approach and practical, sustainable solutions. Active 38 countries, Tdh develops and implements field projects to allow a better daily life for over 2.1 million children and their close relatives, particularly in the domains of health care and protection.
Tdh Foundation has been registered in India since 2008 as a Liaison Office and it has provided technical guidance and support to government structures and civil society organisations to defend and promote children’s rights.
Tdh’s main programme priorities in India are Child labour in value chains, Unsafe migration, Maternal and Child health, WASH, DRR and Emergency response. Tdh’s head office in India is located in Kolkata and our interventions have covered the states of Jharkhand, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha, and West Bengal. In 2017, through our projects and together with our partners, we have reached more than 50’000 beneficiaries, including vulnerable children and their families.
Within its recently developed 2030 vision and strategic priorities for protection Tdh will focus on four key areas – reduce the vulnerability and strengthen of protection of children affected by migration, reduce the number of child victims of abuse, particularly children affected by child labour, strengthen children’s access to their rights in juvenile justice systems by enhancing a restorative approach and improve access to a protective environment of the most vulnerable children affected by humanitarian crises.
