The Project on Women and Child Centric Adaptation was a project conducted in collaboration with UNICEF, Phia, Oxfam India, Thanal. GEAG and State Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha. The Project revolved around government state departments, particularly those mandated to work for women and children to received consistent support in the form of converting existing ‘climate action plans into actionable work plans’. These work plans extended itself to relevant departments including health, education, nutrition, drinking water etc.
The approach chosen will focus on an assessment of selected Sectoral Department plans/schemes on mitigation and adaptation against climate change, as well as a review of their implementation and mobilization of stakeholders for climate change action at State level. The initial mapping, review and consultations will reveal the level to which existing plans integrate and enhance existing State Action Plans on Climate Change or SAPCC recommendations, with particular considerations on how they assess and respond to child vulnerability and respective needs. Based on this initial analysis, capacity building interventions will focus on mainstreaming children’s and women’s climate resilience into state-level development policies and plans.
